What To Do In And Around Tarbert
Walking
Established for several years, the Kintyre Way walk is a popular activity which takes you from Tarbert to Skipness, and then to other areas of Kintyre by sections of the walk. Passing Tarbert Castle and then on to Skipness there are fantastic views from the midway point up Loch Fyne and approaching Skipness across to Arran.
Other walks include an evening walk, or a walk to one or two of the small local beaches.
Beaches
Tarbert doesn't have continental coastline, although it does have two small areas of beach which are popular with families.
Shell beach, a small cove is made up of broken clam shells which is quite unique, this is over the rocks at the end of the Pier Road.
The White Shore, opposite the east pier is accessed by walking along Garval Road to the end and following the natural woodland path along and through the wood to the small beach.
Driving 30 minutes from Tarbert takes you to Skipness which has one of the best beaches in Kintyre and has superb views across to Arran aswell as a great castle.
Castles
Tarbert Castle, overlooking the harbour, and Skipness Castle, a short drive from the village both are historic buildings of interest. Information boards give you an idea of how the castles may have been used historically and remain as a reminder of how life used to be. These are just two of the many castles to be found throughout Argyll.
Sport, Fishing & Golf
Sports people - particularly golf and fishing - are well catered for, not only in Tarbert but all over Argyll. For golfers, a dozen golf courses are available all within 1 hour of Tarbert, and for fishermen a quick cast from Tarbert's east pier will see you catching mackerel, and on both sides of Loch Fyne you will find great spots for fishing, and a number of smaller fresh water lochs for a bit of fly or float fishing.
Food & Seafood
The other attraction to Tarbert is seafood, but eating is rather a necessity rather than a leisure activity, although the appreciation of good food is a hobby too! If you have sampled all delights of Tarbert in some of the many Cafe's such as Scotts, or the Corner House Bistro, why not jump on a ferry for a short trip across Loch Fyne on a summer's day and try a meal at Portavadie Marina, or drive to Skipness to the Seafood Cabin.
